Case study - Oil industry

In February 2004 Procon helped Total with the treatment of oily water wastes from solvents, fuel etc. Here are the details and photographs of the Ultraspin system installed:

Location: Durban, South Africa

Application: Treatment of oily water wastes from solvents, fuel etc. Effluent collected in storm water catch pit, treated and discharged to storm water. Separated oil collected in 1 m 3 oil decant tank that will overflow into the underground waste storage tanks for collection by waste contractor.

Equipment supplied: OS35 with air operated diaphragm pump, basket style mesh strainer, S1 Skimmer and oil decant tank.

Typical Process Data:

• Treated Water flow 3.5 m 3/h
• Oil Type: Waste solvents, fuels, refined Hydrocarbons and oil

Effluent Requirements by law:

• Oil and grease (mg/L): 50mg/L
• Suspended solids (mg/L) 2000mg/L

Effluent:

• Oil and grease (mg/L): <20 mg/L
• Suspended solids (mg/L): <30 mg/L

Discharge Source: Discharge to stormwater
